1. Create an account on our online welcome system

This is where you officially register with us as a student. You are required to confirm your personal details, such as address, emergency contacts and how you will pay your fees. It is vital to ensure that your term time and home address details are accurate, failure to do this may result in you missing important communications. You can find a full list of our halls of residence postcodes on this page. When inputting address details, please copy these directly from your accommodation contract.

You will also be required to upload copies of your valid passport, birth certificate, and if you are an overseas student, your visa documents. We are unable to accept a driving license as a form of identification.

You will need to select the relevant document type and provide the document reference number, for example the passport number or birth certificate/adoption certificate application number.

Failure to do this will delay your enrolment and your student loan. Please note, your student loan should be paid three to five working days after your course has started and you’ve fully enrolled. This is however, on the basis that you have completed your enrolment, as well as submitted and had all your ID verified via Online welcome.

If you experience any issues enrolling, please contact welcome@leedsbeckett.ac.uk or ring 0113 812 5310.

2. Upload a photo for your Campus Card (Student ID)

Your Campus Card is your Student ID, for proving your student status as well as allowing you access to campus, university buildings and our libraries.

If you are a new student commencing your studies in January 2024, you should upload a suitable photo* to Online Welcome before Sunday 7 January 2024. If you do not upload a suitable photo to Online Welcome before Sunday 7 January, you will be issued a no-card slip by your school or the Global Engagement Team. . If you are a Business student you will be issued an electronic no-card slip accessible via your student email. You can then visit the Student Services Centre with your no-card slip and have your photo taken to collect your card. Further details can be found on our university Campus Card webpage.

*for details on what constitutes a suitable photo, please visit Online Welcome or review the ‘Further Guidance on suitable photographs’ elsewhere on this webpage.

If you are an international student, you will be required to complete international check-in before you receive your campus card. Further details can be found on our university International Arrivals webpage.

3. Have your finances in place!

Apply for your student loan now (UK only)

You can still apply up to nine months after the start of your course. Please note, your student loan should be paid 3-5 working days from your course start date. This is however, on the basis that you have completed your enrolment, as well as submitted and had all your ID verified via our Online Welcome system.

If you need any help with applying for your student loan, the Student Loans Company (SLC) has created special guidance and FAQS.

If you are having problems with your student finance, you can access help and support from the Student Money team. Student Money can also support you in applying for bursaries and scholarships.

International students can learn more about tuition fees and scholarships on the Course Fees and Living Costs page in our international students section. Postgraduate students can learn more about postgraduate funding opportunities via the Postgraduate Funding page.

If you originally applied for a student loan at a different university, you will need to update your Student Finance application to Leeds Beckett University. If you do not do this prior to the start of your course, the request to confirm your attendance will be sent to the original university on your application.

4. Download your induction timetable

Your induction timetable can be downloaded via our Online Welcome site.

Course induction is compulsory for all students, it ensures you receive all the key information you need to begin your studies. It is also a great opportunity to meet your course team, meet new friends, and find out more about the wide range of resources and services available to you.

Teaching timetables will be made available to students during Welcome and Induction via the student portal.

Your course team will talk you through when and how to access it. You should discuss any difficulties relating to your engagement with timetabled sessions with your Course Administrator.

5. Log into MyBeckett and set up your Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

When you have completed all the tasks on the Online Welcome portal, including your enrolment, you will receive your University Log In Details (‘c’ number e.g. c123456 and password). Use these to log into MyBeckett (my.leedsbeckett.ac.uk) which gives you access to your modules, timetables, reading lists, email, personal storage and more.

When you log into MyBeckett for the first time you will be asked to choose your own password and set up Multi-factor Authentication (MFA). MFA, sometimes called two-step authentication, is an additional security measure to protect access to university systems and services. This means that you have to provide another method of identification, after entering your username and password, before being able to access university systems and services.

The first time you log in to MyBeckett, it MUST be on a PC or laptop, not a tablet or mobile device. If you only have a mobile device please contact Library and Student IT Advice.

Please don’t try to log into any university apps before completing this process.

You should add the following authentication methods when registering:

  • Authenticator app – download the app to your smart phone when prompted. We recommend using the Microsoft Authenticator app and setting it as your default authentication method.
  • Phone – add your mobile phone number when prompted.

You must have logged into MyBeckett, changed your password and registered for MFA before you do this. If not you will lock your account and have to contact Student IT Advice.

Connect to wi-fi

When you come onto campus you need to connect to university wi-fi (eduroam). Please see our web page: help with connecting different devices.

You must have logged into MyBeckett and updated your password before connecting.

6. Get to know your accomModation team

If you have decided to live in university managed accommodation and been offered a place, you should have received confirmation of this from our accommodation team. If you haven't sorted your accommodation yet, don't worry, there may still be rooms available and our accommodation team can support you with this process. Need to know what to bring? No problem, we’ve created a useful list.
