Universities and colleges

We have been delivering student residential experiences since 2006 to students from Leeds Beckett and other UK universities and colleges.

Tailored programmes

Typical programmes are 5 days and 4 nights but we are able to offer bespoke programmes to any length including one day events and we have a range of venue options to choose from with our partners throughout the UK including hostels, country houses and even castles! All activity equipment, transport and instruction is included with our programmes to deliver a quality student experience.

More information on our programmes

Our university and college residential programmes offer a unique opportunity for new students to meet one another and course staff in an environment which encourages the establishment of individual and group friendships and the development of students' personal and social skills. These are rated very highly by students and, for many, are one of the highlights of their time at college or university.

Programmes are tailored to complement and address key aspects of a student’s course and they all include a critical blend of outdoor, academic and social activities. Typical activities include problem-solving tasks, team challenges, educational visits, rock climbing, ghyll scrambling, mountain adventure, canoeing and kayaking.

The activities run by our highly qualified staff are specifically designed to cater for people with different levels of ability and fitness. We conduct the sessions in a supportive way to encourage participation and recognise the needs of a diverse population of students. We also recognise that the transitional phase into Higher Education is a significant stage in a student’s life. We can provide a residential experience which is tailored around helping students to manage the transition from school, college or work into Higher Education and university.

The benefits of students attending a residential programme with us are:

  • Increased student engagement at a key transition point
  • Reduced attrition rates
  • Improved student/tutor relationships and engagement
  • Supports student health and wellbeing
  • Opportunities to effectively integrate into course modules
  • Supports the creation and development of student friendships
  • Provides experiential learning and development
  • Positive impact on student progression

We have been organising outdoor adventurous activities with our school for many years now and the week with Carnegie Great Outdoors has by far been the best. Without exception we were really impressed with the way the staff managed the programme of events, related to our children's individual needs and above all the professional way in which they worked to ensure that our students got the best experience possible. All of our students managed to climb the highest mountain in England, canoe across the deepest lake and climb (and jump down) the most magnificent Ghyll in the land; these big adventures will stay with them for the rest of their lives and it was only possible due to the tireless efforts of Carnegie Great Outdoors.
